RAFT Waters

Rainfall-runoff Analysis, Modelling & Forecasting Tools (RAFT) Research Team — IIT Hyderabad

A hand-drawn illustration of a flooded Indian street in the rain. People wade through knee-deep water past shops and a parked scooter, a child floats paper boats beside a tree, and in the foreground a young woman in a yellow kurta lettered VarshaMitra photographs the scene on her phone.

The RAFT (Rainfall-runoff Analysis, Modelling & Forecasting Tools) Research Team at IIT Hyderabad, led by Dr. Satish Regonda, works at the intersection of science, engineering, and policy to better understand rainfall and flooding, with a particular focus on rapidly evolving urban flood events. Using advanced technologies, we develop innovative products & tools to help in decision-making and improve resilience. Our initiatives include SnapFlood®, a citizen-powered platform that transforms on-the-ground flood observations into valuable information. We actively collaborate with academia, government agencies, industry, and communities to translate research into real-world impact.
